Sarah Andrews is speaking at 16.30pm on Saturday 31st May at the Whole Person Whole World Greenhouse open day.
Her talk is titled ‘Lesotho connections: twinning Quthing Hospital with Ysbyty Gwynedd.’
Sarah Andrews lives in Hirael and worked in the Greenhouse for 20 years. Now a public health specialist, she is part of a local group developing friendships between health services here and in southern Lesotho.
The mountain kingdom of Lesotho, surrounded by South Africa, has long had a relationship with Wales. Through Dolen Cymru many local schools here have twin schools there. This is the first twinning for Ysbyty Gwynedd, and aims to be a mutual development of knowledge, skills and understanding. Sarah will tell the story of the relationship so far, including slides from her trip there last year, and she will discuss some of the unexpected successes and regrets in this intense work.
The workshop following the talk will use the project to explore concepts of power differences between richer and poorer countries and people, and how to best conduct ourselves when we want to connect across these real divides.
